Foamcore board (you could use rolls of plastazote foam) This project took me about three months due to its simplicity, but could've been shorter if I hadn't started from scratch regarding the wiring and programming. Just read up online, start with a cheap iron and upgrade once you start loving this hobby, because you will). (It's really not hard to solder I promise. Basic soldering skills will be needed to put all of these together. Electronics wise, I used an Arduino Uno R3 as the controller, along with a few servos (~$2 each), LEDs (~$5 for 50), resistors, microswitches and some wire. My modifications were the use of foamcore as a material, and papier mache as a finish (dont use a papier mache finish! it really doesn't work well!) and then spraypaint in metallic gold and red. The method for making all the armor parts is the usual pepakura method. Basic electronics knowledge will be required, like knowledge of resistors, servos, circuits, Ohm's Law, and how they all work together to make the unified circuit that powers the suit. I tried to make this project as cheap and easy for the beginning DIY hobbyist/hacker as possible (being one)!!! The tools required are a hot glue gun, soldering iron, and a dremel tool (and a hole punch lol). I wanted this suit to be as technologically functional as possible. I didn't just want to make any Iron Man suit though. After tinkering with Arduino for a few months and needing a costume for Halloween, I decided to mix the two. I would recommend you to first stick the paper templates and see how the final piece will look before you trace them on foam, it will save you a lot of foam, time and will prevent your motivation from droping down as mine did.Displayed here is my halloween 2012 project. Scaling the armor was a pain but in the end I'm very happy with the result. I'm 5"10' (1.78m) and have a lean body type. I had some huge trouble scaling them and had to do maybe 4 or 5 attempts before I get them right and tight fitting.

I used a mix of these mainly for 3D/view reference and did some minor mod when I feel I needed too.Įnough with the talk, now bring on the pics ! Here's my old armor, just look from page to page to see my progression :thumbsupīut today is the day and I'm almost done with the foam workįor those who are wondering, I used DacinFool foam conversion of his mkIII pep files that you can find on the first post of this thread and Royal Dump foam conversion of these same files. I learned a lot (from my mistakes mainly :lol) and did a way cleaner and better job this time. This is my second build ever, after I did my mkIV with STEALTH files.

I've been working on my mkIII for a month i believe or maybe a bit more and I've been dying to post some progress pics but never found the time to. Okay guys, now it's time for some major update !
